Historical AI 2 difficulty tests
This report describes the previous Advanced policy. Read the current AI 3 results.
Choose your practice difficulty before starting. The setting saves with your match. We aim for roughly 90% wins for each level against the level below it.
Three ways to practice
- Beginner: basic deployment and exploration, with short turns and fewer combinations. A learning opponent.
- Intermediate: the existing full-turn faction tactics and reactions, without the Advanced search.
- Advanced: plans action sequences, boosts exploration before exhausting a character, and weighs points denied by keeping a blocker. It can replace an unplayable opening and chooses hand-limit discards by usefulness.
All levels follow the same rules, card pool and Charge economy. Advanced does not see the rival hand or either deck’s shuffle order. It samples its own known remaining deck composition to estimate draws.
Fresh-seed validation
Frozen evaluation on 648 games separate from tuning. Nine faction mirrors with first Companions; nine rotated cross-faction matchups with alternate Companions. Three fresh seeds per matchup, both difficulty seats and both starting players independently crossed. All 18 Companions represented. Faction starter decks, same rules and resources.
Percentages are outright wins; the fractions show wins/games. These are estimates from this sample, not guaranteed outcomes for every faction, shuffle, or human opponent. Cross-faction results also reflect faction matchup strength. The 90% target is a tuning goal; the measured rates above show current progress.
Search remains bounded for browser play. It estimates future scoring and hidden draws rather than solving the game. Remote multiplayer is not part of these tests.
